My Trip To Penang

After IF Camp, I managed to gather some people to go on a tour to Penang and Ipoh. My initial plan was to go on a road trip to Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Taiping and Ipoh. However, due to the inability to gather enough people to go along with me and also finding a place to stay, I decided to go ahead with two of the five place plan. It was a very interesting trip. We started off in Penang and I must thank Bob and Chu Leik for bringing us around. I really got to visit places which I would not have been able to if not for some locals who knew a little Penang secret. Here are some of these places;

Getting started with a plate of mee rebus, the best I have ever tasted.

We were suppose to visit a lobak stall before going to our hotel. However, we arrived a little too late and found the shop close. The good thing is we managed to stumble upon the hotel which we were supposed to stay in. It seems that it was just opposite of this lobak shop. We decided to pay a visit to the lobak shop the following day. Next stop, Penang Chendol.

The bowl of ice cold chendol, suitable especially on a hot day. I like the big beans the most as it tasted very 'lemak'.

A sigh of relieve as we gulp down the ice cool chendol. Ah!!!

The chendol stall. It is always the little stalls by the road that has the best food or dessert. I'm a total hawker supporter.

After a sumptious meal, Bob suggested we pay a visit to the War Museum in Penang. His description of it seems interesting and we decided to see what was in store for us there. I was in awe when the road leading to the place revealed a hidden treasure. I could see some old barracks by the side of the road. It seems interesting and I couldn't wait to check it out.

Me coming up from a narrow shaft from the tunnel that we had climbed through. It seem high but when I had reached the top, it wasn't that tall after all.

Coming out from the shaft, we were greeted by a big rifle. All of us couldn't help possing for a picture. On the hand, Andrea did the honours of becoming a flying target.

My favourite pic. All of us doing a matrix impersonation at one of the war relics left behind.

After the interesting visit to the war museum, we headed out to Balik Palau area where we visited "Little Genting". It was a place situated at the top of a hill overlooking the Straits of Malacca. The road leading to this place were lined with durian trees, all of which had a fruit or two. I foresee a bountiful harvest. When we reached the top, we were greeted with a fantasy like atmosphere where sculptures of animals and beautifully decorated gardens made the place different. We reached in time to watch the sunset.

Sitting in a private hut we ate our Thai dinner. It was interesting atmosphere. A good place to spend some privacy away from others with your love ones.

This were some who join us for the dinner.

We manage to try the lobak the following day before going on another makan spree around Penang where Chu Leik brought us around.

Getting a picture in the hotel we stayed. Can you spot the Fat one?

We then headed to Lorong Selamat for char kuay teow and then to Gurney Plaza to escape the heat. There the girls decided to shop while the guys preferred a more relaxing activity, watch movie. We manage to catch "Coach Carter". It was an interesting movie and very inspiring as well. A recommended show to watch. Then we made our way to Gurney drive for some makan and then to the pancake shop and then to an interesting cafe by the sea before making our way back to Ipoh. An interesting trip to Penang indeed
